I really hate having to deal with this type of thing these days, the internet dramas, but I feel I have to say something in support of my friend :iconexileden:, who has been working on this wonderful piece:

WIP werewolf by Exileden

There are those of you that are accusing her of "stealing" from me, that she copied my work "Eyes of the Night"

Eyes of the Night by Goldenwolf

I am here to say that, no, she did not.  There are similarities to be sure, but she has already stated that this is a tribute to some of her favorite anthro artists, including me, and no part of this is directly copied from any piece of art or any artist.  Copying anyone was not her intention, and I think the piece is coming along beautifully.  I hope she finishes it!

You are all entitled to your opinions, but please, -knock it off-.  Would you just let artists create already?  We artists will find out if someone is directly stealing from us, believe me, but this petty "this pose looks vaguely like the one so-and-so used over here" or "that hand/foot/eyeball/species" or "that style looks like so-and-so's" is getting ridiculous and is extremely childish.  I thank all of you for looking out for my artwork (as do the rest of the artists you admire) but you really need to cool it DA.

Otherwise, I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, Blessed Yule, Happy Kwanza, and all the other Holidays.  May they be very merry and bright ^.^

I really don't mind if someone uses my work as inspiration.. I direct copy would annoy me but inspiration is dif.. there is no caused to attack anyone. If you felt copied I'm sure you would have said something..

Yeah, I agree. If all 7 billion people on the planet would make a drawing, it is most likely that some of them would look a bit like someone else's work, but that doesn't have to be stealing.
There are maybe a few billion way's to draw something. That doesn't look alike. There are probably more than a billion drawings and not everything has been drawn yet, so the chances that, even when you draw something without reference, there is already something that looks like what you made.
Also, what you draw is influenced by what you've seen in your life. Every picture, drawing or real world object you see influences what and how you draw.

Yeah... It's getting kind of dumb. Unless something is blatantly obviously copied (like tracing or something) we're all just coping what we've seen in our heads right? Or real life? We see something in our head and we make it. And when it comes to poses you can't really be accused of doing something wrong. Any pose you can think of has already been drawn by somebody somewhere. So that means we're all copying which is silly. I laugh at people who say "you copied that pose".

It is a beautiful piece and it's very sad that someone cannot create art like this without facing rabid retaliation for it. I can't wait to see it finished either. I hope some folks realize in the future(if they don't now,) how disrespectful they were.

its actually very nice in my op that there are artists out there with simular styles and they maybe just wanna try their hand at a simular pose for their own sort of practice.

i am an artist myself and i know at least 3 people with the same style i have. i love it cuz i think we could all grow together to become much better by compairing eachothers works with our own.

my examples would be Oro of furaffinity, wildside of furaffinity, and me nubarq of sofurry.

each one of us has our own personal flare. im the sexual artist, oro is the extremely cute one, and wildside is well,.. hes the wild one.

we could and would do well to aspire to be something remotely close to what we can achieve at full potential. someone already near that is a guy named taoren of furaffinity. im my op he is what all three of us could be in the future.

I know what you feel, just because it's so look a like or look similar, people just yell thief :( I saw many mermaid drawing sitting in the rocks, it doesn't mean they were stealing from one and another artist. Or when we draw a dining table in the dining room. It must be the same...doh!~ there must be dining table, with fork and spoon etc ^^; but some people just still yell thief because there it is, the the different type but still dining table, spoon and fork etc ^^;

Although I must admit, her drawing is sooo look like yours XDDD sorry...Happy Hollidays to you too :)

It seems dA drama is running rampant these days. I was recently accused of copying or imitating *neondragon's style to such a degree that it was suggested I credit her on every single one of my pieces. I'm sorry. Neondragon can draw circles around me, and my dragon style is nowhere near similar enough to hers that I should have to credit her as my inspiration every time I draw something. So, yeah. That kind of thing annoys me. :XD: I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking that such comments are childish and people just need to take a pill and relax. :) Unless a piece of artwork is a blatant copy of someone else's and no mention of the original artist is given, of course. I would never abide or support anything like that.

Anyway, cheers, and Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays. :holly:

I've been watching your art for probably close to... 9ish years now and I did notice some similarities. But being one of /my/ favorite anthro artists I only noticed some similarities but also noticed all the differences and personal uniqueness that is also in it. I know you've inspired art from me in the past and inspiration comes in many forms, including similar pieces of work that are still not copies or thieving. Besides that front-views of stalking wolves is a generally common pose to begin with.
I hope she finishes it, it really is very stunning on it's own merit. Some people have a bad habit of being over sensitive to something that resembles something else they've seen.
Humans, I swear.
Chill, people.

The only time I've ever said anyone "copied/stole" anyones art, is when someone uploaded one of my good friends art. The exact peice. Save as, re-upload. And I always mention "this looks like so and so's piece," and link to the original. Usually they take it down, but I've had two people argue with me and had to report them. Its sad that people ignore real art theft, but raise hell over minor similarities. I often use other artists work as inspiration, and to help with poses, as well as many photographs.

Darn drama llamas, I've followed both your and pearl/exile's stuff for a while now, it looked very similar at a glance but when you look closely it's very disimilar at the same time.
Like you said, if someone is ripping your stuff off, you'll find out, poses aren't copyrighted, i could do the same thing with a tiger or a dragon or a skunk and it would be the same pose but a totally different piece.

I just like seeing gorgeous artwork at the end of the day :)

Thanks for dressing this! The likeness is strong and minor at the same time-- a black wolf with stunning fur details in a staking pose-- similar but different ones too. Let alone their body types! I have seen poses like this before and black wolfs all the time-- no way one call this stealing if they really 'look' at the facts/factors. Even 'if' she had taken strong inspiration off your work this is totally legal and an original work.

You are a most wonderful artist and person to speak up and be so supportive thank you!, Merry Christmas, and happy holidays

Thank you so much for writing this! I think it's deplorable the way artists are being treated nowadays. I realize that the commentors - at least most of them - are just trying to be helpful, but recently all people on this site are doing is making people NOT want to create. I've seen the accusations against Exileden, and so many other great artists and the journals are stockpiling in my mailbox about how dA is by far the most aggressive place to create art, and how many artists here no longer wish to share their work. It makes me sad, because things are being taken to extremes :( There are millions and millions of users on dA and so yes drawings are going to look similar. But that's because there are only so many different ways to draw, only so many different creatures, poses, etc to draw. And the fact that so many didn't read her description and started accusing her is just positively horrifying. So thank you so much for posting this, hopefully this will make everyone knock it off and not only leave Exileden alone, but other artists as well.

What's worse is the self appointed "copyright police" on DA who attack anyone who posts everything from screen caps to motivational posters to card maker stuff to photo-manipulations. Now I can see the issue with some of it as honestly it's not art and doesn't belong on DA (better suited for Tumbler and Photobucket), but attacking them for it and calling them thieves is not the way to tell them anything. And then there's people who draw fan art whom they also attack for "copyright infringement" as well as those who do legitimate photo-manipulations. It's like "What part of the Fair Use Act did you not get?" O.o Not to be confused with the Fair Use Clause, of course. There's two in particular that I ran into who are trolling DA that need to STFU and get a life whom I've run into who called me a thief (along with some friends of mine), yet the images I have in my gallery have been seen by someone from Hasbro and I was told that my use of them the way I did was fine. If he had told me there was an issue, I would have asked him which ones and then would have graciously taken them down. But nope, no issues so I'm cleared, yet "miss copyright enforcement troll" still insists I'm a thief and has me posted on some stupid list, along with others whom she has falsely accused. These people seriously need to grow the hell up and get over themselves.

If the images were legitimately set to use as stock images for such things as photomanipulations and since you got permission, yes, it would be okay. I haven't run into anyone saying I "stole" anything (because I draw pretty much everything out anyways).

The main source of the problem is that there's too many kids on dA that don't know what they're talking about.

Unfortunately, they've been doing that for years. I distinctly remember a group on Livejournal some eight or nine years back that claimed to "hunt down art thieves..." only 90% of the "art thieves" they harassed were just artists who drew similar poses or the same species as another artist (one example they gave of "art theft" was a picture of two characters running side-by-side, which was claimed to be "stolen" from... another picture of two characters running side-by-side, even though that was quite literally the only similarity between the two. They weren't even done in the same style.)

So it's not really that it's "getting" ridiculous, so much as it's been ridiculous for a ridiculously long time...
